A new chicken restaurant concept in Wichita could catch on nationally, according to the brand’s founder.
Max Sheets, who is from Newton and went to school in Wichita at Collegiate, says he’s hoping his Chick N Max idea catches on outside of south-central Kansas. The first Chick N Max restaurant opened at 410 N. Hillside earlier this year while a second is scheduled to open Monday at 2350 N. Greenwich.
“Wichita is home and the city has a great restaurant start-up tradition,” Sheets says. “We’re very happy with the Central and Hillside location. We’re in the proof of concept stage now, but this is a brand that we think will have a national presence.”
Sheets says additional Wichita locations are slated to open later this year, including one on the Innovation Campus at Wichita State University.
“We’re proud to be a part of such a forward-thinking idea,” Sheets says. “The Innovation Campus is a wonderful idea. We’re going to have a big patio right at 21st and Oliver. It’s going to be really nice.”
The fifth restaurant, Sheets says, will be near 21st and Amidon in northwest Wichita. Billed as a quick-serve restaurant, Chick N Max specializes in smoked chicken dishes, chicken tenders and “premium” desserts like apple dumplings, its website says.
“I grew up in the restaurant business,” Sheets says. “Bringing Chick N Max to life is many lessons combined in a way that I believe we can build around.”
